$100,000.00 Donation To Trail System |

It Has Been A Good Year |
|
Earlier this year, Town of Collingwood Director of Leisure Services Peter Dunbar told council that the Trails Committee had received a substantial, anonymous donation of $100,000.00. Mr. Dunbar says the money will be used to extend the White’s Bay boardwalk to follow the old federal wall that once protected Collingwood Harbour from storms. He said this will allow trail users to make their way to the edge of Collingwood harbour to an area that otherwise is not readily accessible by foot. Councilor Chris Carrier said this portion of the town’s trail system is filled with wildlife and offers magnificent views.
Mr. Dunbar also told spoke of growing regional cooperation regarding the development of trails. Earlier this year Collingwood Council learned that Clearview Township is considering dedicating 7,000.00 dollars to the creation of the Train Trail that will eventually link Collingwood to Creemore along the former railway property. In addition, the Town of The Blue Mountains has announced that their trail system will connect to the Collingwood system at Mountain Road within one year. Collingwood trail users have seen positive changes this year. The new trail along highway 26 at Cranberry Village is now complete. This trail provides safe transportation along the busy highway as there are no sidewalks in this area. Trail users can now easily join up with the Georgian Trail which in turn links to many of Collingwood’s other in-town trails. The new trail south of Mountain Road to the southern town boundary along Black Ash Creek is now complete. It has been a good year not only for the ongoing development of Collingwood's world class trail system, but for those who use it. |
