Ice Fishing Season Ends

Ice fishing season in Collingwood came to an end just before the March deadline to remove ice huts from the harbour. These huts are back on dry land after what was a good season

It was a good year for ice fishing in Collingwood Harbour. Until early March, the southern Georgian Bay region didn't experience an extended thaw. The ongoing cold temperatures formed good ice in the harbour and allowed for an uninterrupted ice fishing season. The deadline for removing ice huts from the harbour was March 15th, but all huts were removed prior to the cut-off point because of the mild temperatures that ushered in the month of March.

It is an offence under the Public Lands Act governed by the Ministry of Natural Resources to leave an ice hut out after ice break up regardless of whether registration and removal dates apply.

The mild temperatures and rain that arrived with the month of March created unsafe ice conditions in Collingwood harbour after an excellent ice fishing season
Prior to the March mild weather, mother nature provided the region with consistent cold temperatures allowing for the formation of excellent ice conditions throughout the winter.
