Canning Makes Room For New President and COO

After three decades of leading the management team at Blue Mountain, Gord Canning will relinquish his role as "President and Chief Executive Officer" will replace George Weider as "Chairman of the Board of Directors" and continue to be "Chief Executive Officer" at Blue Mountain Resort. In his new role Gord will continue to report to the Board of Directors with his focus shifting to longer term strategic plans and financial priorities.

George Weider, son of resort founder Jozo Weider, will be retiring from his position as Chairman. Following in his fathers' footsteps, George, who became President of Blue Mountain in 1971 following the untimely death of Jozo, assumed the role of Chairman in 1978. George and his wife, Barbara Weider, have been active citizens in the Blue Mountain and Collingwood communities, acting as ambassadors for the resort and the culture it embraces. "Although I'm returing as Chairman of the Board, I will continue to be an active participant in the familybusiness as the ownership structure will remain the same" says Weider.

Taking over the daily operations as President and Chief Operating Officer is current Vice President of Mountain Operations, Dan Skelton. Dan will continue to report to Gord and will focus on the daily operations of the resort as well as the long term strategic plan. Having dedicated his career to Blue Mountain, Dan is known for revolutionizing the resort's snowmaking system with the invention of an automated valve for the snow guns, making it a world class, state-of-the-art operation. With Dan's promotion comes additional internal promotions and restructuring in the Operations and Mountain Recreation divisions.
