Cold Winds Blow
Construction Continues
At The Shipyards

Underground Parking Construction Complete
As Development Rises Above Ground

The arrival of 2010 has seen construction continue at a furious pace along Collingwood's waterfront. The view along the shoreline changes almost on a daily basis, as construction continues to move "full speed ahead" at the Shipyards. Tara Parsons is the Director of Sales at the Collingwood Shipyards. Parsons said that he underground parking structure is substantially complete at Mackinaw Condo A, and most of the residential foundations are complete. Wood framing is now underway along this portion of the waterfront development with the first occupancies available in spring, 2010.

Downtown revitalization is also underway and soon, the two developments will meet, allowing Collingwood residents full access for the waterfront for the first time in over a century. A new downtown lighting system is being installed to improve the downtown environment in the evenings and late at night. "Soon hundreds of people will be calling downtown 'home' when they move into the Shipyards development, and the upgrades we're making to our downtown will provide added safety and a more enjoyable experience during non-daylight hours" said Sue Nicholson, General Manager of the Downtown Collingwood Business Improvement Association.

Residences are at various stages of completion throughout the Shipyards waterfront development in Downtown Collingwood.

"The Side Launch will include a nice wide promenade, great seating and fully accessible areas for everyone to be able to walk along the water" Parsons said. Construction is underway on the Side Launch 1 building that will sit on land where huge lake freighters were once built and launched in the Collingwood Shipyards. "Launch 1 will have condominium suites, underground parking and elevators. It is a 3 storey, warehouse style building that actually replicates a lot of the structures that were in the shipyard property" Parsons said.

The north end of Hurontario Street will tie in with the promenade along the site where the massive ships were once launced at the Collingwood Shipyards. Benches will allow for relaxation and the enjoyment of access to Collingwood's waterfront at this location for the first time in over a century.
