Concept Is Catching On With Visitors

Visitors to Sunset Point Park in Collingwood are now required to back in to a parking place as Reverse Angle Parking is now in place.

Follow The Directions
It's As Easy As 1-2-3

A new concept for parking at Sunset Point has been mostly positive according to Town of Collingwood Director of Leisure Services Peter Dunbar. "We are having good responses" Dunbar said, adding that new visitors to the park see the signs and follow the directions. "Some of the local residents still park the way they always have" Dunbar added, saying that it will take some time for the concept to totally catch on. "It is a total retraining process for those frequent visitors who are used to parking a certain way but it's worth it as we work to improve safety at Sunset Point" Dunbar added. With safety in mind, the Town of Collingwood has installed speed bumps to slow traffic at a crosswalk area connecting the treed green space and playground with the waterfront.

Recently the Town of Collingwood was presented with a cheque in the amount of $15,000.00 by the Rotary Club of Collingwood, representing the second and final instalment of a $25,000.00 commitment to contribute to the beautification of Sunset Point. Peter Dunbar says the next project at the park will be to upgrade the irrigation system and improve lighting.

Easy does it! New speed bumps have been installed at a Sunset Point crosswalk to slow down traffic and protect pedestrians as they cross from the waterfront to the playground area.

"It's a total retraining" says Collingwood Leisure Services Director Peter Dunbar. It will take time to educate some visitors to the safety benefits reverse angle parking brings to Sunset Point Park, as illustrated above with some people still parking "nose first."
