The month of June is Recreation and Parks Month in Collingwood. The Town of Collingwood's Parks, Recreation and Culture Department encourages everyone to embrace the theme "Live it Everyday!"
The objective of Recreation and Parks Month is to increase public awareness of the value and benefits of recreation for individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities. It represents an opportunity for us to celebrate our extensive parks and trail system in Collingwood, and to realize how the system contributes to the quality of life we all enjoy.
The Town of Collingwood has some opportunities available for everyone, including:
- Active Kids Passport - an opportunity for the children to be active for the month of June
- Centennial Pool Summer Program sign-up and Kick-Off to Summer Event
- Grand Opening of Bygone Days Farms
- YMCA Summer Program sign-up
- Bike to Work Week
Mayor Sandra Cooper reminds us that Collingwood boasts more than 72 km of trails to explore. "Recreation has many benefits. It boosts confidence and improves self esteem, making us all feel better about ourselves, giving us more energy. Our town has more than 72 km of trails for walking, running, biking or hiking, and an abundance of green space to enjoy."
The June is Recreation and Parks Month website is www.recandparksmonth.ca. It is the virtual home for events throughout Ontario. There are free toolkits for participants, activities for children and a complete calendar.
It's hard to imagine any other community having a trail system as extensive and beautiful as we have righ there in Collingwood. Visit www.collingwoodtrails.ca for more information about Collingwood's trail system.
