Collingwood MS Walk 2010

EACH YEAR ACROSS CANADA
THE WALK RAISES WELL OVER 10 MILLIION
DOLLARS TO FUND RESEARCH

Collingwood residents were once again helping to raise much needed funds to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis by taking part in the 2010 Collingwood Super Cities Walk on Sunday, April 18th. The WALK began at 10am Sunday morning, originating at the Collingwood Legion and winding its way along approximately 8km of Collingwood trails.

The Super Cities Walk is the MS Society’s largest event fundraiser involving over 70,000 participants and volunteers in more than 160 communities across Canada. From the 100-person Walk in Candle Lake, Saskatchewan, to the 4,000-person Walk in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to the annual Collingwood Walk, the MS Walk is truly a family oriented, community-supported event. The WALK began in 1991 and is now one of the most important events for the MS Society to raise funds and to increase public awareness of the need to continue research and raising millions of dollars each year.

Last year walkers in Collingwood raised over $114,000 with over 50 percent of this total staying in Simcoe County. Collingwood MS Walk Committee MemberGary Norman says half of the money stays in the county with the other half going to aid further MS research. Proceeds have gone to fund research in the search for a cure and vital services for people currently living with MS.
