Collingwood Horse Show Is Back

2007 Event Will Return To Collingwood

Safety Issues With Turf At New Thornbury Horse Park Made It Necessary To Move The Event Back To Collingwood

Dry weather has played a major role in seeing the Collingwood Horse Show return to Collingwood for 2007. Show organizers had arranged to move the Collingwood Horse Show to its new home at the Thornbury Horse Park this year, however ongoing dry weather caused problems with the turf presenting a safety issue for the horses. Director of Leisure Services Peter Dunbar and local developer Larry Dunn worked together with Horse Show officials to provide a location for this year's event.

Moving the show back to Collingwood certainly won't create a problem for organizers or participants. Fisher Field was the long-time home to the Collingwood Horse Show so organizers, participants and spectators will certainly feel right at home with this year's location. This year, the show will occuply land immediately north of Fisher Field and south of the Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club.

The return of the Horse Show is good news for Collingwood's summer tourism business. Thousands of visitors will be booking hotel rooms, shopping in Collingwood and eating in Collingwood restaurants which is all good news for the town's economy.

Fisher Field has undergone a transformation of its own and is now home to new soccer fields.

The Horse Show will move to Thornbury for the 2009 Event. The new Thornbury Horse Park will boast three grand prix rings, four hunter rings, an indoor arena and 20 paddocks. In addition, the new facility will contain 300 permanent stalls and will be able to stable an additional 1,400 horses for major events.

The Collingwood Horse Show begins August 8th.
