Collingwood Fire Department
Busy Over Holidays

Quick Work By Collingwood Fire Fighters

The Collingwood Fire Department has been kept busy over the holidays. Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish a fire in an apartment at 72 Third Street on Wednesday, December 29th. The department answered the call around 10:20 a.m. at the historic Third Street home that was once owned by the Bank of Montreal for use by the local branch manager. The structure now houses several apartments. A passer-by saw flames shooting out of the first floor west window and called the fire department. He said that he saw a girl exit the building, only to run back in. She again quickly left the building, thankfully driven back by thick smoke. One person was taken to hospital. A burning candle is believed to have triggered the fire.

Collingwood Fire Chief Trent Elyea (pictured below) is seen leaving the Third Street apartment building. Fire officials remind everyone to be extra careful with candles and decorations at this time of year. Third Street between Pine and Maple Streets was blocked off while fire crews were at work.

On Boxing Day, fire ripped through a home at the corner of Osler Crescent and Campbell Street. The house (pictured below) was totally gutted. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.
