New Downtown Heritage and Downtown
Business District Entrance Signs
New Downtown Heritage Business District Signs welcome visitors to the Downtown Heritage District

New Heritage and Downtown Business District entrance signs have been added to Collingwood’s downtown.  Collingwood Town Councillors, staff and Heritage Committee members attended a special ceremony at the corner of Hurontario and Hume Streets on Friday, December 9th, at 8:45 a.m. to unveil the sign at the district’s southern entrance.

The signs mark the boundaries of the heritage and business district, and are intended to add to the ambience of the downtown heritage district, while providing a warm welcome to both local residents and visitors.

Heritage Advisory Chair Lindsay Cook said that the level of co-operation and support demonstrated by three municipal committees (Collingwood BIA, Collingwood Revitalization, Heritage) during this project continues to solidify Collingwood’s reputation as a provincial leader in the heritage preservation.

“This initiative came to fruition as the different groups independently of each other were discussing how to define the boundaries that are the same for both the heritage and the downtown.  Downtown Revitalization Chair Doug Garbutt stated that “the new entrance signs support the pride we have for our Downtown Heritage and Business District.”

Large signs have been installed along Huron Street near Heritage Drive and at Hurontario Street near Fifth Street.  Four smaller signs will be installed along First Street near Maple Street, Third Street near Pine, Hume Street near St. Marie Street and Ontario Street near St. Paul Street.
