More Changes To First Street Retail District |
![]() |
Collingwood's First Street retail district continues to change. Demolition crews have taken down the former Little Ed's Sports Store, which years ago was home to Lakeview Dairy. Work continues to take down the former McDonald's Lumber yard, used more recently as real estate offices. The property was once owned by former Collingwood Mayor Alex McDonald, and his brother, Roy McDonald. The demolition of these buildings will make way for a new retail development that will house a new, 18,000 square-foot Shopper's Drug Mart location. Beech Street now ends at First Street as the street on the north side of First Street has been eliminated to combine the properties and allow the developer to build on a much larger site. Collingwood has just completed a massive reconstruction project to First Street from that saw the street widened to allow for the creation of left hand turn lanes to improve traffic flow. |
