With upgrades in place, the Collingwood Curling Club would be able to properly host many special events including the Winter Games and Paralympics

Phase Two Renovations Now Underway

The dust is flying as construction is underway to renovate the entrance to the historic Collingwood Curling Club. Earlier this year, Collingwood Council accepted the low tender of Fuhre Construction Limited, in the amount of $394,910.00, as the contractor for the Collingwood Curling Club Phase Two - Entrance/Vestibule Addition and Interior Renovations.

It was moved by Councilor Sonny Foley and seconded by Councilor Kathy Jeffery that council accept the tender allowing Phase two of the Curling Club Renovation to move forward. Phase Two of the Curling Club renovation will see the construction of a completely new tower entrance. In addition, an elevator will be added to the front of the Curling Club building to allow for easy access to the expanded viewing area/public meeting room. The addition will match the existing structure to embrace the heritage aspect of the building, constructed in 1909. The renovation will allow the facility to be accessible for the Para Games in February, 2008, and the Ontario Winter Games in March, 2008.

Director of Leisure Services Peter Dunbar points out that the tender was different than the original presentation received by Council earlier this year. He said that extra window treatments for example were requested. In addition, Dunbar said a roof issue and other modifications to the overall project made it necessary for the original presentation to be revised slightly.
