Simcoe County Launches
New Educational
Web Site

"The County has been hard at work to bring together the municipal partners in order to build appropriate answers to the growth challenges we face"

-- County of Simcoe Chief Administrative Officer Mark Aitken.

The County of Simcoe announced today the launch of a new website dedicated to Simcoe area growth related information. The website, growth.simcoe.ca, will be a repository for all information related to the growth process currently being undertaken by the County and the area municipal partners.

Growth in the Simcoe area has been identified as the single largest issue facing this region and the Province of Ontario has publicly and strongly encouraged area municipalities to work together to build and define a local solution to the issues and challenges that growth brings. The Simcoe Area Growth Plan is a process being led by the County of Simcoe with the involvement of its member municipalities and other municipal partners in the Simcoe area, the City of Orillia and the City of Barrie.

This process includes the County of Simcoe’s development of an area-wide growth management strategy as a component of its official plan review and conformity exercise with the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe adopted by the Province in 2006. The Growth Management Strategy is important because it will determine the future urban structure of the County and the policies to guide growth and development.

“The County has been hard at work to bring together the municipal partners in order to build appropriate answers to the growth challenges we face,” stated the County of Simcoe Chief Administrative Officer Mark Aitken. “Every resident needs to learn more about this issue because it affects each and every one of us. That’s why we have launched this new website. Residents, media and everyone interested will now be able to log onto the internet for one central source to find the information as it is develops.”

Public and stakeholder involvement will be sought for a series of public forums in October and the information developed through this process will be used in the development of new ideas and solutions to the challenges that growth will bring. A schedule of forums will be posted on the website. As related information is available, this will be the most comprehensive source for such information.

The County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia.
