Extended Hours
For Colltrans Service
6 Month Trial Period Begins In September

Ridership Increased 38 Percent
This Year In Collingwood

The success story continues for Collingwood's bus service. On Monday, July 27, 2009, council voted to launch a six month trial period that will see the hours of the town's Colltrans service be extended. Beginning in September, the first CollTrans bus will be available at 6:30 am and the service will continue until 9:00pm on Monday to Friday. Weekend service will remain the same.

Council learned that Colltrans ridership jumped by 38 percent in 2008. Collus Executive Director Ed Houghton told council that it is estimated that more than one hundred thousand people will use Colltrans in 2009. Houghton said that the cost of running an extended bus service will also result in an increase in ridership fees. The cost to ride a Collingwood town bus is just one dollar and represents one of the lowest fare rates for public transit in Ontario.

Councilor Tim McNabb said that extended hours could result in an increase in teen ridership. He said that the teen market represents a growth market for the Colltrans service, saying that many teens work at west end businesses and restaurants and need transportation home when their shifts are finished.

Colltrans busses are equipped with bike racks so residents can hook up with Collingwood's trail system throughout town.
