Collingwood Mayor Chris Carrier talked about freedom, human rights, and how proud he was to be a Canadian. Mayor Carrier welcomed Collingwood citizens and visitors who had gathered to participate in the Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony in front of the Downtown Collingwood Federal Building on Sunday, July 1st. Town Crier Ken Templeman opened the ceremony, and was joined by Deputy Mayor Sandra Cooper. The large crowd sang "Oh Canada" and then enjoyed a piece of a special Canada Day Birthday Cake.

The Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony was a part of a weekend filled with activities in Collingwood's Downtown District and at Harbourview Park. Saturday and Sunday began early with a Pancake Breakfast in front of Town Hall. The popular Downtown Farmers' Market moved to Hurontario Street on Saturday, June 30th. Collingwood's Downtown was transformed into a large pedestrian mall for the weekend, featuring musical entertainment, events for children, outdoor patios and a sidewalk sale. The weekend was highlighted by a fireworks display on Sunday evening along Collingwood's waterfront.
