Council Approves $10,000 Contribution
To General & Marine Hospital Foundation

More Than 30,000 Visitors Rely On Emergency Services Each Year
Collingwood Council has approved a $10,000 dollar contribution to the General & Marine Hospital Foundation. Jory Pritchard-Kerr, Executive Director of the foundation, spoke to council on Monday, January 25th. In her presentation, Pritchard-Kerr stated that the hospital was looking for one dollar for every Collingwood household, with the money to be used to help purchase new surgical equipment. Pritchard-Kerr said that the foundation is constantly in need of funds to upgrade the hospital. In 2009, the foundation purchased new x-ray equipment, adding that the provincial government didn't kick in any money for the one million dollar price tag of the new x-ray machine. The General and Marine Hospital's emergency room serves in excess of 30,000 patients per year and more than 4,000 in-patients per year.

Council approved the financial contribution prior to the passing of the 2010 budget. February 22, 2010 is the deadline for the preparation of the draft budget at which time it will be presented to council for approval.
