The Collingwood Optomists held the 2008 World Championship of Bed Races in Downtown Collingwood on Sunday February 24th!

A 'pump up' pancake breakfast was served at 8am at the Leisure Time Club to fill the tanks of participants. Then, it was off to main street to begin the races at 11am.

Bed Racing Teams consisted of 5 participants with four people pushing and one person (required to be at least 18 years of age and wearing pajamas) in the bed. The cost to enter was $125 per team if you had your own bed or $200 per team with a bed provided by the Collingwood Optimist Club. Money raised by the Optimist Club will go to help support club projects including Collingwood youth soccer and music programs.

It is hoped this event will generate interest in creating a special "Winterfest" weekend in 2009 on the long "Family Day" weekend.
