To Revitalize Downtown District

Hurontario Street Remains Open For
Business For Pedestrian Traffic
Between 2nd and 3rd Streets

Construction is underway to upgrade Collingwood's downtown historic district. Hurontario Street is closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians between Second and Third Streets during phase one of the revitalization project.

The revitalization project became a reality when Simcoe-Grey M.P. Helena Guergis visited Downtown Collingwood on Friday June 13th, 2009, to present a cheque in the amount of $2 million dollars on behalf of the federal government for the Downtown Collingwood Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Economic Revitalization Plan. In addition, the provincial government contributed $2 million dollars to the project, the Town of Collingwood is investing $2 million dollars and the Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area has committed $1 million dollars to the downtown revitalization project.

Downtown BIA General Manager Sue Nicholson reminds us that convenient off-street parking lots are available at the corner of Pine and Second Streets, on St. Marie Street between Huron and Simcoe Streets, and on St. Marie Street between Simcoe and Ontario Streets. Pedestrian walkways connect the parking lots to Hurontario Street. Also, on-street parking is available on both Pine and St. Marie Streets. Work in 2009 will include Second/Simcoe Street from Pine Street to St. Paul Street and Hurontario Street from Second/Simcoe Street to Third/Ontario Street. Traffic signals will be replaced at the intersections of Hurontario Street and Second/Simcoe Street and Hurontario Street and Third/Ontario Street as a part of phase one activity.

Construction is now underway in front of Collingwood's Municipal Building on Hurontario Street between Second and Third Streets.
