13 of 18 Units Spoken For

Construction is nearly complete at the site of a new 3 storey affordable housing development on High Street in Collingwood. Collingwood Mayor Chris Carrier told Collingwood Council on Monday, July 20th, that 13 of the18 available rental units have been spoken for. The development consists of one and two bedroom units and represents the first major affordable housing development in Collingwood in close to two decades.

Affordable Housing Task Force Cordinator Keith Hull told Collingwood Council earlier in July that the task force is looking at a possible partnership with a private developer to develop additional affordable housing units. Hull added that the task force is investigating the possibility of creating more affordable housing apartments above some of the businesses in downtown Collingwood.

Collingwood's Affordable Housing Task Force addresses matters relating to affordable housing within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the Town of Collingwood. The Task Force researches and develops recommendations, guidelines and policies that garner or take advantage of opportunities for the enhancement of affordable housing in the community.
