Town Officials & Admiral Collingwood Place Developers Approach Deadline With July 3rd Meeting
OMB Hearing Scheduled For July 9, 2007
All is quite at the site of the proposed Admiral Collingwood development at the corner of Hume and Hurontario Streets in Downtown Collingwood.

An Offer Will Be Made To Admiral Collingwood Developers Wednesday July 4th After July 3rd In Camera Session & Council Meeting

Collingwood Council met to discuss the Admiral Collingwood Development at a special afternoon meeting of Council on Tuesday July 3rd. Collingwood C.A.O. Gord Norris said that an offer will be made to the proponents on Wednesday July 4th. If the new Town offer is turned down, Norris said it wouldn't necessarily mean that the two sides would have no alternative but to take the matter to the scheduled July 9th Ontario Municipal Board hearing. Norris indicated that there would still time for the Town and Developers to resolve their differences before the scheduled OMB hearing.

Admiral Collingwood Place Developer Steve Assaff was back in front of Collingwood Council at a special council meeting held on Saturday June 30, 2007. Assaff said that revised plans for the multi-million dollar condominium - retail development include a height reduction and revisions to the building's design. Downtown Heritage guidelines presently limit the height of any new building to 11 metres. The original design of the Admiral Collingwood project called for a maximum height of 22 metres. Assaff says that he has put forth three alternate designs for council to consider over the course of the latest series of special meetings. Discussion continued regarding a proposed dollar figure to be paid to the Town with respect to the development exceeding height and density rules presently in effect. Originally, a payment of $660,000.00 was to be made to the Town. In light of the proposed height reduction, a proposed reduced payment of $351,000.00 has been put forth for consideration by council.

"The previous council and this council have all been unanimous in wanting to see that site develop" Carrier said on the "Chats" program on 95.1 The Peak on Friday May 4th. "I mean I didn't vote to knock down the old Admiral Collingwood School because I wanted to look at an empty lot for the next four years" Carrier said.

An agreement between the Town and Developers would eliminate the need for the ten day scheduled OMB Hearing to begin on July 9th
