Council Passes 2011 Budget
As Close To 0% Increase As Possible

Collingwood Council has passed the 2011 municipal budget, with an increase as close to 0% as possible. Deputy Mayor Rick Lloyd said the budget was sent back to staff on numerous occasions with instructions to make further cuts. "Cutting two million dollars from the initial budget draft was difficult, but thanks to hard work by town staff, it was possible."

Lloyd says council is paying close attention to ways to keep spending under control throught the remainder of its term of office, saying planning will soon start on future budgets with a goal of keeping tax increases to a minimum by continuing with the fiscal restraint demonstrated in the creation of the 2011 budget.
