"I see the sesquicentennial project as a chance to bring the various chapters of the Town's story to life"
-- John Haines

Plans are moving forward to organize events for the Town of Collingwood Sesquicentennial Celebrations. Collingwood Council recently heard from Committee Chairperson Dr. Don Paul and Town of Collingwood Special Events Coordinator Karen Cubitt. Dr. Paul and Karen Cubitt told Council that work continues to create four interpretive panels, to be unveiled at the Town of Collingwood's New Year's Eve Celebration. The Town has commissioned local artist John Haines to create a series of four interpretive panels that highlight the history of Collingwood and its residents. Haines is taking advantage of the many historical photos provided by the Collingwood Museum to put together his panels.

The Sesquicentennial interpretive panels will be broken into 50 year blocks. The first panel will highlight the 'Pre-Collingwood' time period. The second panel will encompass the years 1850 to 1908. The third year will encompass the years 1908 to 1958, and the fourth panel will highlight the town during thte years 1958 to 2008. The plan is to showcase these panels throughout the community throughout our Sesquicentennial year, 2008. Eventually the panels will be permanently installed at a yet-to-be-determined site in 2009.

"We hope you share in our excitement of this upcoming celebration and trust that you too view it as a great opportunity to showcase the successes of Collingwood present, pay tribute to Collingwood’s past, and impart a vision of Collingwood’s future."

Dr. Don Paul, Chair of the Sesquicentennial Committee

The Town of Collingwood has scheduled ten dedicated Sesquicentennial celebration days from Friday June 27th to Sunday July 6th, 2008. Special Events Coordinator Karen Cubitt told Council that plans are underway to organize a special Sesquicentennial parade, adding that there has been interest from many classic car groups and bands.
