Big crowds lined Sidelaunch Way to take part in Collingwood’s SideLaunch Days Festival

Sidelaunch Days has quickly become a signature event on the Town of Collingwood events calendar.

Festival visitors enjoyed free canoe, kayaking & sailing. Stand up paddling races were exiting to take part in, and to watch, as participants made their way toard the finish line in the former shipyard launch basin at the end of main street. A two day wakeboard competition featured competitors of all abilities. There was a War Canoe Tug O’War, Kids Craft & Activity Centre, Harbour Boat Tours, free sailing opportunities presented by the Collingwood Sailing School, food, frosty cold beverages and two concerts at the Shipyards Amphitheatre.

What better way to celebrate life in Collingwood than with a harbourfront festival.

Everything great about life on the water in Collingwood was packaged into the SideLaunch Days festival.

Prior to Sidelaunch Days weekend, people were invited to try out wakeboarding in safe and protected Collingwood Harbour. It looked easy. All you had to do was grab onto the cable and be pulled through the wakeboard course. However, there was a bit of a learning curve!

Wakeboarding in Collingwood harbour was a popular event with both participants and spectators. Participants were pulled across the the course by a cable. No boats!

The Ontario Summer Splash SUP Race Series stoped in Collingwood at SideLaunch Days and featured demos and races throughout the harbour.

The races featured four distance categories including sprint races and team races on Blu Wave’s giant SUP. The races drew large crowds and proved to be very exciting. Anyone was welcome to participate. Distance categories were: Elite (8km), Open (5km), Novice (2km) and Youth (1km).

The Axed Mobile Throwing Club was on hand to demonstrate and help participants attempt to master the craft of axe throwing.

The Collingwood SideLaunch Days Festival is a winner because it welcomes locals to share in the celebration of Collingwood’s waterfront.
