We celebrate the accomplishments and adventures of residents of Collingwood and south Georgian Bay.
Long Time Barrie – Collingwood Radio/Television Broadcaster Has Passed Away
If you grew up in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Barrie, Midland or anywhere in-between in the 1960’s, 70’s or 80’s, you will remember listening to Wayne Bjorgan on the radio. Wayne Bjorgan was born in St Walburg, Saskatchewan, but spent most of his life living in Ontario. In his early years he worked in radio in south-western Ontario but moved to Barrie in 1961 where he began his 30-year run in local television and radio broadcasting.
Remembering Popular Radio Personality Brian Henderson
Former CKBB Barrie – CKCB Collingwood Program Director and popular on-air personality Brian Henderson has passed away. Brian’s radio career began at CKMP in Midland. He then moved on to CKBB radio when it was a part of CKVR-TV in Barrie and he was off to the races. Brian later would spend 27 years with CHUM in various capacities including the morning sports guy, news person and morning show host. He owned the airwaves in Barrie and Collingwood when he worked here. Brian Henderson was one-of-a-kind.
I have met many travellers over time, but I can honestly say I haven’t met anyone as fit, adventurous and inquisitive as Collingwood’s Jana Rihova. Jana recently completed a cycling journey throughout Spain.
You have probably seen Jana cycling throughout the streets of South Georgian Bay communities. Jana loves to cycle, and vacations around the world exploring far away countries. Jana’s cycling adventure from north to south Vietnam was truly an eye opening experience.
The Back Pages salutes the talents of local Collingwood residents.
Richard Garner is a familiar face within the Collingwood music scene. His versatility and ability to re-invent himself has kept him on the leading edge of creativity for decades … and he’s at it again!
Moses Znaimer was, is and will always be Canada’s media trailblazer. The founder of CityTV, inventor of Speaker’s Corner and the man who launched Much Music, Bravo and Fashion Television to name just a few, is also a radio guy.
The Terry Fox Foundation annually highlights a young cancer survivor from the Terry Fox community of supporters. Young Collingwood resident Lauren Lesage is the 2018 Terry Fox Ambassador. Lauren’s accomplishments to date are truly incredible and you get the feeling she is just getting warmed up.
