The world's largest, longest standing and original annual wakeboarding, action sports and music festival returned to Collingwood on Friday, August 5th. The festival's roots date back to Bala in 1998. Since then, Wakestock has grown into one of the world's largest events of its kind.
Wakestock is one of five annual events, including the WWA World Championships, that comprise the 2011 WWA World Series of Wakeboarding, the world's richest pro tour. Harley Clifford of Australia grabbed top honours in the pro men's wakeboarding competition. Bob Soven of Florida finished second and Canadian Aaron Rathy came in third. Brian Grubb of New Hampshire finished first in the pro wakeskate finals..
In addition to the action in Collingwood harbour, the event features performances by some of today's top bands including legendary Boston punk band the Dropkick Murphys and Orange Country, California reggae rock band The Dirty Heads, Hollerado and KO.
Other festival events include skateboarding, surfing, kiteboarding, motorcycle stunts, a large action sports expo and marketplace showcasing youth action sports lifestyle clothing, gear and accessories. |
