The restoration work at the former Tremont Hotel continues. The exterior of the building has been restored to its original late 1800's appearance, including the installation of new windows. Well known local historian Richard Lex purchased the building in 2009 from the Town of Collingwood, with a plan to restore the former hotel to its past glory. Mr. Lex was concerned that most of the former Tremont Hotel building could have been demolished in any other development plan that may have taken over the downtown property. He was concerned the town would lose an important part of its heritage if any demolition took place at the former hotel site. The restored Tremont will feature a mix of office and retail space.

The Tremont House was built in 1889 by John McCormick as a 24 room hotel and is one of the last remaining 19th century hotel buildings in the Collingwood Downtown Heritage District. The Tremont was constructed following the 1881 fire that destroyed a large portion of Collingwood's downtown. The proximity of the hotel to the railway station made it a popular destination for travellers.
