One of the region's most popular attractions of the season was held on June 3rd, 4th and 5th. The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) Town and Country Studio Tour is held each year throughout the first weekend in June. The BMFA has been celebrating art and artists in the Georgian Triangle region since 1986 through the Studio Tour. Since the first year of the tour in1987, the tour has grown to welcome thousands of visitors every year to the area. The event is now held in Collingwood, Blue Mountain, Thornbury, Clarksburg, Nottawa, Duntroon, Glen Huron, the Pretty River Valley, and the Beaver Valley.
When the tour started, it was a small two day affair featuring approximately 15 artists. It has grown into a 3 day weekend, featuring more than 70 artists in about 30 studios. The artists work in a tremendous range of media including painting, photography, glass, pottery, wood, jewelry, iron, and textiles. During the tour, each artist with a working studio hosts several guest artists, to form a mini gallery.
More recently, the Town and Country Studio Tour has used public spaces, such as the Collingwood Public Library Gallery to highlight and showcase several artists. These multi-studio venues are becoming increasing popular as people with busy lives attend the Studio Tour. The area we cover is very large so we try to cluster groups of studios to create walking or bicycling routes.
The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Centre in Downtown Collingwood will display samples of work from all artists until June 26th.
