Provincial Money To
Upgrade Roads
Provincial Government Hands Out 10 Million Funding Dollars To Improve Collingwood and Stayner Bypasses
As traffic issues continue to build throughout Collingwood and surrounding Southern Georgian Bay communities, a little good news came in the form of provincial funding assistance to improve roadways used as bypasses to Collingwood and Stayner. The provincial government has agreed to provice 7.3 million dollars to help improve the Popular Sideroad between the 10th Line and Highway 26. In addition, 3.7 million dollars will go to help upgrade the 27/29 Sideroad in Sunnidale. This road is a popular bypass of Stayner and as tourism continues to grow throughout the region, so does traffic along this roadway.
While pleased with the arrival of provincial funding, Collingwood Mayor Chris Carrier is disappointed that the town had failed in a bid to receive 7 million dollars in funding for ongoing sewer upgrades. "Grants were released from the Province of Ontario and 11 municipalities received funding in Simcoe County. We were not one of them, unfortunately" Carrier announced to Council. We had asked for 7 million dollars for sewer works, and when you look at some of the monies received by our neighbours, congratulations. When you look at monies received across the province, congratulations. I would just like to reinforce that our application met all terms and conditions of the requirements for grant consideration" added Carrier.
Upgrades are scheduled for First Street (pictured above) and Hume Street later this year.
Road work will continue throughout Collingwood this summer as the town moves forward with its 10 million dollar sewer replacement and storm sewer installation project.
