Three Citizens Receive
Order Of Collingwood

Collingwood's Bill Allan was honoured to receive the Order of Collingwood at the Mayor's New Year's Levee held on January 4, 2009.
Collingwood's Bill Allan wondered out loud why he was chosen to receive the Order of Collingwood at the New Year's Levee held at Georgian Manor Resorts on Sunday, January 4th. It didn't take long to find out why Allan was one of three Collingwood citizens to be honoured this year. The Second World War veteran had spent years volunteering his time to help young community members of the Collingwood Air Cadets from 1960 to the mid 1970's, serving as commanding officer. Allan is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and has dedicated a great deal of time as a member of the Poppy Committee. Sports has played a major role in Allan's life in Collingwood. Allan was an outstanding hockey player on Collingwood teams, moving on to play hockey throughout Canada, the United States and England. Upon returning home, he coached minor hockey in Collingwood. Allan, who is now 91, remains very active in the community and continues to deliver Meels on Wheels to area seniors. He is also an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Collingwood.

Ken Templeman, Collingwood's Town Crier, received the Order Of Collingwood for his outstanding work in our community.
If you attend any official Town of Collingwood function, you have no doubt heard from Collingwood's Town Crier, Ken Templeman. In fact, rather than take the day off to enjoy his honour, Templeman worked as Town Crier at the Mayor's New Year's Levee prior to receiving his Order of Collingwood. That's just the way he is. Templeman has given endless time back to the community in many ways including as a dedicated member of the Collingwood Lions Club for 12 years. He has served as Treasurer, Secratary, Vice President, President, District Treasurer and Zone Chairman. Templeman was the founding chairman of Breaking Down Barriers board. He has served as the Sergeant at Arms for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 63 in Collingwod, for three years. He has served as drum major for the Beinn Gorm Highlanders for seven years, as the Collingwood Santa Claus Parade Marshall since 1996 and as a director of the F.W. Fisher Foundation, Bygone Days Heritage Village. This past summer, Templeman played host to the Ontario Guild of Town Criers competition in Collingwood.

Collingwood's Frank McNulty has brought world class musicians to Collingwood as a part of the Collingwood Jazz Festival and Collingwood Jazz At The Station series.
There are many sides to Frank McNulty. He has grown McNulty Printing from a downtown storefront location in the 1970's to a thriving print house now located on Stewart Road in Collingwood. Stepping back from the day-to-day printing business, McNulty has launched a new venture. JBG Productions is a music booking and production company based in Collingwood, presenting authentic jazz and blues performers in a wide range of styles. It only makes sense that McNulty would head down this path. "Growing up there was always a lot of music in the house. I listened to a lot of big bands that my parents played" McNulty said. He has produced the Collingwood Blue Mountain Bluegrass Festival from 1997 to 1982. He presented the Collingwood Jazz and Blues Festival from 2001 to 2004 and he continues to present the popular Jazz at the Station concert series. McNulty is also an avid skier, having coached local young skiers and served as president of the Collingwood Ski Club. McNulty has also coached local softball teams and is a past president of the Collingwood Chamber of Commerce.

Companion of the Order of Collingwood recipients are Dave Chandler, George Christie, Harry Wells and Myrna Westcott. The Companion of the Order of Collingwood is presented to former Order of Collingwood recipients who continue to be involved in community activities.
