New Year's Levee
Order of Collingwood Recipients
The annual Mayor's New Year's Levee at Georgian Manor Resort on Sunday, January 9th, honoured thirteen people for their outstanding contributions to the Town of Collingwood by awarding them with the Order of Collingwood.
Wilma Davies has served on the board of the Georgian Good Food Box for seven years, has worked with the Salvation Army Food Bank, has been a member of the Collingwood Accessibility Advisory Committee and has worked with the Victoria Order of Nurses Day-Away Program for the past four years.
Former Mayor Doug Garbutt is presently serving on the Downtown Revitalization Committee. Garbutt was Chair of the Collingwood 125th Anniversary Parade Committee and was Co-Chair of the Rotary Club Polio Plus Fundraising Committee. He has also been involved with Collingwood Minor Hockey over the years.
Gerry LaChance has dedicated a great deal of time to volunteer work at the Leisure Time Centre, including teaching duplicate bridge for more than a decade. LaChance is a "Go Go Grandmother" with the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of Aids Research in Africa.
Donna Mansfield has been a member of the Collingwood Library Board since 1997, where she has served as chair of the board for many years. Mansfield has also served on the Collingwood Police Services Board.
Marie Campbell Raithby has been a big supporter of Collingwood Minor Hockey over the years, and was a member of the Hockey Mothers of Collingwood, president of the Navy League, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 since the mid 1950's and a member of the Heritage Community Church Choir.
Barbara Sneyd has served as a director on the Georgian Triangle Housing Resource Centre Board for three years, and served as Director for four years. Sneyd has been a volunteer at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital for over a decade and does volunteer work at Trinity United Church in Collingwood.
Gail Synnott has been a long time member of the Girl Guides organization, including a four year term with the District Commission for Blue Mountain District of Girl Guides of Canada. She has also received the Salvation Army Guiders Award.
Kent Walton has been a volunteer with the Special Olympics organization, and has volunteered as a board member of Hospice Georgian Triangle. Mr. Walton was a founding member of the Collingwood Harbourlands/Waterfront Committee. He is also director of Habitat for Humanity in Collingwood and received the honour of being voted the Collingwood Volunteer of the Year.
Norman Wingrove is a 16 year member of the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust Foundation. He has served as Chair and Secretary of the Watershed Action Committee. Mr. Wingrove has also been a trail captain with the Bruce Trail Assocition Dufferin Highland Club.
Companion to the Order of Collingwood award recipients were Mary Lou Simonato, Garry Reid, Ann Sneyd and Sandra Meagher.
