Local teens now have dedicated library space to read, work or play thanks to a donation from The Collingwood Optimist Club.
The Optimists committed $25,000 to the Collingwood Public Library to enhance services for teens. The Optimists concluded their donation early by surprising library staff with a $15,000 cheque.
The funds contributed to the construction of a library space specifically for teens. Titled The Nook, the space provides a welcoming environment for teens to sit back and read a book, work on a school project, or visit with friends.
“The Collingwood Optimist Club is proud to play a supporting role for youth in our area. The Nook at the Collingwood Public Library will provide accessible resources needed by our teens to set, and attain the highest possible goals,” said John Limoges, club president.
The Nook features a young adult collection of books, magazines and graphic novels, computer stations, comfortable couches, and dedicated staff.
“We’re grateful to the Optimists for coming on board and sponsoring The Nook,” said Teen Services Assistant Lindsay Shaw. “Now that we have a brand new space we’ve seen an increase in teen customers who really enjoy having a place to call their own.”
Providing a separate space for teens is a growing trend among public libraries. The Collingwood Public Library is proud to be taking a key step forward in showing commitment to local youth.
The Collingwood Public Library’s Teen Services represents the interests of teens through dedicated space, collections, staff, services and programs. We provide a safe and welcoming environment where teens are provided with opportunities for exploration and growth to help them succeed and create a stronger community.
