Beautiful New Downtown Library Opened
On Tuesday, April 6, 2010
The official grand opening will take place in May, but very quietly, the new Collingwood Public Library opened its doors on the morning of Tuesday, April 6th. The three storey building features floors one and two as the town's new library, with the third floor to house additional municipal offices. Outside touch-up work remains to be done but inside, the new library is bright, clean, ultra-modern and very welcoming. There are lots of places to sit and read, you'll discover many computers to access, art displays, stained glass windows and a large children's area.

Official Opening - Thursday May 27th
The Town of Collingwood has set a date for the grand opening of the new Collingwood Public Library. At 12 noon on Thursday, May 27,2010, the new downtown facility situated on the corner of St. Marie and Simcoe Streets will be officially opened at a special ceremony.
On July 4, 2008, Mayor Chris Carrier dug his shovel into the ground to officially begin construction of the three storey, 30,000-square-foot-building that will be the new home of the Collingwood Public Library and to town offices. On this day, Mayor Carrier praised the efforts of the people behind library fundraising campaign, noting that the goal of raising $500,000 had already been exceeded by more than $200,000.
Severe winter weather last year (in 2009) caused delays in construction that ultimately pushed back the opening of the new library.
The ultra-modern facility will feature two library floors, a green roof, public meeting space, art gallery and recording studio. Collingwood Mayor Chris Carrier said that the library official opening will be an exciting day for everyone in Collingwood.
