Quick Work By Collingwood Fire Fighters
The Collingwood Fire Department has been kept busy over the holidays. Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish a fire in an apartment at 72 Third Street on Wednesday, December 29th. The department answered the call around 10:20 a.m. at the historic Third Street home that was once owned by the Bank of Montreal for use by the local branch manager. The structure now houses several apartments. A passer-by saw flames shooting out of the first floor west window and called the fire department. He said that he saw a girl exit the building, only to run back in. She again quickly left the building, thankfully driven back by thick smoke. One person was taken to hospital. A burning candle is believed to have triggered the fire. Damage has been estimated to be close to $400,000.00.
