| Mayor Chris Carrier, Collingwood Town Council and the Collingwood Heritage Committee have announced the names of three recipients of the Town of Collingwood annual Heritage Awards. The Collingwood Heritage District was officially designated in June 2003. Since that time several businesses and homeowners have made significant efforts to restore their buildings. In recognition of their work three owners have been selected to receive the 2007 Heritage Award. For the first time an award will be given to the owners of a home who have constructed an addition implementing the heritage guidelines. Rick and Susan Lloyd, owners of Smart’s Flowers have constructed a new store front at 52-54 Hurontario St. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd through careful consideration of the heritage district guidelines have created a “new-historic” look for their building. Lloyd said there were a few surprises during the renovation process, adding that he is thrilled with the outcome. Steve Vipond had a vision for 18 Huron St. when he purchased the building in 2006. Mr. Vipond has taken the building including the store front and used the original design features to rejuvenate the façade. The building has attracted a new business to Collingwood, Rustic Pear. Mr. & Dr. Yeates of Pine Street wanted an addition at the rear of their three storey, Arts and Crafts/Edwardian house (c. 1910). The Yeates family with the help of contractor/designers Porter-Skelton, have created an addition that not only compatible with the heritage guidelines but functional for their family as well.
