Collingwood Council has given the green light to moving forward with another Collingwood Elvis Festival for July, 2009. Approval came despite the fact that the festival presently shows a 2008 deficit of approximately $64,000.00. Collingwood Elvis Festival Manager Rosemarie O’Brien told council that the festival came in approximately $7,000.00 short of projected advertising sales in 2008, and approximately $40,000.00 short in sponsorship sales. In addition, council learned that ticket sales revenue was down approximately $44,000.00 from projected sales.

O’Brien told Council that the 2009 festival will be scaled back with a focus on bringing back existing festival sponsors.

Despite the 2008 shortfalls, the tough economic times and despite the fact that Elvis Presley Enterprises has increased Collingwood’s licence fee to $8,500.00 for 2009, Council voted in favour to move forward with this year’s festival to be held July 23rd to 26th.
