On Canadian Idol
Canadian Idol Contestant Drew Wright put on a show at The Station to say "thank you" to Collingwood for the outpouring of support he has received.
Collingwood's Drew Wright has taken a giant step forward in his music career by being voted into the Top 9 of Canadian Idol. Wright and 8 other talented Canadian performers will now live the life of rock stars as they continue to compete to become the new Canadian Idol. Drew sang "The Reason" by Hoobastank on Tuesday night (July 8th) and received enough votes to move into the top 10. "You're definitely one of my favourite voices in this competition this year for sure and there was some almost transcendental Bono-type moments in that performance that I was like, 'Wow, this guy.' I think you're a bit of a 'perfect person" said Canadian Idol judge Sass Jordan.
Wright Performs At The Station
There were Drew Wright signs and t-shirts everywhere at The Station on Saturday evening, July 5th. At times, Collingwood's Drew Wright seemed somewhat overwhelmed with the tremendous support the Town of Collingwood has thrown behind him as he competes to be the next Canadian Idol winner. However, when he picked up his guitar and moved to the the microphone, he shows everyone that he is a confident, well grounded professional and a very talented singer. Wright put on a show to say "thank you" to Collingwood on Saturday night at The Station. "There's a lot of amazing talent this year" Wright said in an online interview on CTV.ca. "I'd love to perform for a living. It would be amazing" he added.
You may have seen Drew Wright perform as the lead singer for the popular local band "Malleus," winner of the Rock 95 Battle of the Bands competition a year ago. "I'd never done Idol before. I thought I'd explore the avenue. It's my last eligible year so I thought I'd give it a shot" Wright said.
Wright survived last week's cuts and has made it to the top 16 of Canadian Idol, seen Monday and Tuesday evenings on CTV.
