Construction numbers remain strong in Collingwood despite the slowdown experienced throughout other regions of the country. In March 2009, Total Construction Value was $8,640,095.00, up from $5,098,750 in 2008. The strong March 2009 numbers bring the year-to-date Total Construction Value figure to $32,148,285.00, almost triple the 2008 number of $10,778,080. Building Permit Fees were $51,009.69 in March 2009, up from $25,125.70 from March 2008. Forty-three new dwellings were created and one Heritage Permit was issued last month.
Construction of new homes is underway at the foot of Maple Street along Side Launch Way. The Shipyards, Mackinaw Village Condo A portion of the Shipyards Development will see the construction of 48 condominium units.
New home construction continues north of the Poplar Sideroad and south of Campbell Street in the south end of Collingwood.
