Construction Of New Homes Continues

More than 17 million dollars in building permits were issued to the Shipyard Development along Collingwood's harbourfront in February.

While new home construction has slowed throughout Canada, Collingwood has just enjoyed a record month for issuing building permits. In February 2009, $21,577,890 million dollars in building permits were issued, bringing the 2009 total to $23,508,190 million dollars.

Major permits issued during February included The Shipyards, Mackinaw Village Condo A portion of the Fram Building Group harbourfront Development in Collingwood, totalling $17,320,650.00 and representing the construction of 48 condominium units. The town also issued $1,737,000.00 in building permits to Sierra Tanglewood for the construction of 18 Apartment Units.

Total construction value of building permits issued in February 2009 was $21,577,890.00, compared to $3,165,300.00 in February 2008 In February 2009, Total Building Permit Fees totalled $112,708.25, Town of Collingwood Development Charges Collected totalled $708,606.88, Simcoe County Development Charges Collected totalled $234,480.10, Education Levy Collected totalled $80,612.44 and Black Ash Creek Development Charges Collected totalled $24,086.46.

Construction of new homes in Collingwood's south end along the Poplar Sideroad (pictured below) is now underway east and west of Hurontario Street (County Road 124).
