April Flurries
-- Bring May Flowers? --

Downtown Collingwood BIA General Manager Sue Nicholson visits one of the new outdoor patios that are beginning to open for Spring ... snow or no snow!
What happened to the april showers? Collingwood residents were treated to two bonus days of winter weather on Monday and Tuesday April 6th and 7th. Throughout Ontario, rain, freezing rain, snow and blowing snow created havoc on roadways as the spring storm moved through the province. Gusty winds and heavy snow contributed to the collapse of the Barrie Sports Dome. On Tuesday April 7th, the Thornbury/Meaford region received over 30 cm of snow along with blowing snow that forced police to close a portion of highway 26 for a large portion of the day. In Collingwood, town work crews were kept busy plowing streets and sidwalks. Just days before the snowstorm, visitors to downtown Collingwood could enjoy time sipping a coffee on an outdoor patio. The late season snow is good news for tourism. Blue Mountain will re-open on Friday, April 10th for Easter Weekend skiing and boarding.

The patio furniture was out on decks and patios throughout Collingwood only to be buried in 30-plus centimetres of snow in an early April snowstorm.

Snow Day!
