Ministerial Order Response from Province for General & Marine Hospital

Monday August 27, 2018

Collingwood Council has received a response from the Province of Ontario with regards to a request for a Provincial Ministerial Order to designate the Poplar Sideroad site as the location for the new Collingwood Hospital.

The response came from Aly N. Alibhai, Regional Director, Municipal Services Office, Central Ontario and confirmed the Town of Collingwood’s request has been received and passed along to the Honourable Christine Elliott, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Collingwood Deputy Mayor Brian Saunderson put forth a motion at the Monday July 23rd council meeting to instruct Town of Collingwood staff to send a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Minister of Health and Long Term Care, the Minister of Finance, and Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson. The motion was passed unanimously.

Saunderson said it was good to see such a quick response from the Province.

“It has been a busy time for the new government and as they have indicated the request has been forwarded to the appropriate staff and the ministry for consideration.”

Saunderson asked CAO Fareed Amin if there had been any discussions or follow up with the hospital with respect to the funding the Town of Collingwood has set aside to assist in the application process.

Hospital and Town on the same page and moving forward with hospital redevelopment conversations

Town of Collingwood CAO Fareed Amin and General & Marine Hospital President and CEO Norah Holder Meet Regularly

Mr. Amin told council that he meets on a regular basis with Collingwood General & Marine Hospital President and CEO Norah Holder.

“We meet on a regular basis to ensure that we continue to collaborate and do whatever we can to move the redevelopment forward. At one of those meetings the availability of the funding was raised with her and I haven’t received any request to access that funding. She is aware that Council has set aside $150,000.00 to support the efforts to get the hospital to where the Ministry of Health requirements are. I haven’t received any requests from her but I will continue to follow up with her to ensure that I keep reminding her that the money is available and that whenever she deems it appropriate to access that funding we’ll be ready to respond.”
