Planning continues for many downtown events including the popular Saturday morning Farmers’ Market
Director of Marketing and Business Development for the Town of Collingwood, Martin Rydlo, recently addressed the Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Board.
Tourism Development Fund
In his presentation to the board, Rydlo confirmed that a Tourism Development Fund Application is being submitted. The Fund supports projects that encourage three key streams:
1) tourism investment,
2) tourism product development
3) industry capacity building.
Minutes of the Thursday, February 8, 2018 meeting show that the BIA Board supported and confirmed that it has allocated funds in the 2018 Budget to participate in this initiative.
In addition, Mr. Rydlo advised that both Sara Almas, Clerk for the Town of Collingwood and Dean Collver, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, have agreed to allocate funding from their respective budgets towards this project.
The Board confirmed that the BIA is also willing to allocate funds from reserves at a future date. However, the Board expressed concern with the level of funding requested from the BIA and agreed to present the matter to the membership during the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
General Manager Nicholson confirmed that the Simcoe Street Theatre has been reserved and that Marketing and Business Development Director, Martin Rydlo has been asked to present a 10 minute overview of the Wayfinding Project to the membership as part of the evening’s program.
The board meeting held on Thursday, February 8th saw the Downtown Collingwood BIA budget approved.
Downtown Through The Decades
BIA Board Member Patsy Boyce reported that the popular Art on the Street Program has been finalized for 2018. This year’s theme to be celebrated with original artwork on art chairs to be situated throughout the downtown historic district will be ‘Downtown Through The Decades.”
Past Chair and current BIA Board Member Brad Green has been a big promoter of the Art Chair program in Downtown Collingwood
Work continues in preparation of the return of the popular Collingwood Downtown Farmers’ Market. BIA Board Member Bradley Green reported that the 2018 Farmers Market rates have been set. Green along with BIA General Manager Nicholson are reviewing the Elvis Festival RFP and have forwarded questions for further discussion. The Board expressed concern of the RFP’s short timeline, however the Board is willing to assist.
The Parks Recreation and Culture department continues to rework the Live / Original festival format and until those details are finalized the BIA Board’s involvement is tentative.
In addition, the Board is looking for more details regarding the proposed downtown Collingwood car show scheduled for August 18th.
The next meeting of the Board of Management of the Collingwood Downtown BIA will take place on March 8, 2018.
